How do Veterans Qualify for Va Ccn Addiction Treatment?
To qualify for addiction treatment through the VA Community Network (VA CCN), veterans must meet specific eligibility criteria that allow them to receive care from approved community providers when a VA facility cannot meet their needs.
A veteran may qualify for a community care referral if they meet at least one of the following six criteria:
- Longer wait times: The wait for an appointment at a VA facility for addiction treatment exceeds 20-30 days.
- Excessive travel distance: The one-way travel to the nearest VA facility offering the required service is more than 40 miles from the veteran's home.
- Service unavailability: The specific outpatient alcohol or drug rehab service required is not offered at the veteran's local VA facility.
- Clinically inappropriate care: A VA provider determines that the care available within the VA does not meet the veteran's specific clinical needs.
- State without full-service VA: The veteran resides in a state or territory that lacks a full-service VA medical facility.
- Other hardship: The VA identifies a specific hardship that makes receiving care through the CCN in the veteran's best interest.
To begin the process, veterans must be enrolled in VA health care and request a referral from their VA primary care provider or mental health coordinator. Once the referral is processed and authorization is received, the veteran can select an approved provider, such as Rosewood Recovery, to begin treatment.
